Giving flowers should be as rewarding for you as it is for the lucky recipient. No matter the occasion, the effort alone will earn you points. But why not go for the complete win? Our Guys Guide to Buying Flowers will help steer you in the right direction, every time.
Ask questions.
An obvious first step is to ask what they like, and then ask what they hate. That way, at the very least you always know what you must include in a bouquet and what to avoid. Trying to be as sly as you can, of course, in order to pull off the perfect surprise later.
When or where to send flowers?
Before you choose flowers, decide how they will arrive. Do you want a surprise delivered or do you want to present them yourself? If you know their home address, consider sending flowers to a residence if possible to make the gesture more personal and private. If you are delivering to a workplace, order the day before if you want them to arrive early enough to be enjoyed the whole day. Also, know that delivering later in the week means they will have less time to enjoy them at work unless they bring them home. You may want to consider sending to a residence if it’s already Friday. Good to Know Tip: Our arrangements are delivered in a custom carrier that the recipient may keep to transport them safely.
Be creative. If you know the recipient well, don’t be afraid to ask for something unique and unexpected like a succulent in the arrangement. Give the florist a snapshot of their personality and let them design something just for you within your budget. They’ll receive a totally unique design just for them that will always be remembered, along with you. Tip: Sometimes the container can be just as amazing as the flowers. Ask your florist if they have anything special other than a glass vase. A little bling, unique or modern ceramic, or even just glass vase with color to complement the arrangement will add extra pizzazz and raise the bar for any would-be competition.
Charisma by Freytag’s florist
Date flowers.
If you want to give your date flowers, go for a small wrapped bouquet. Best bet, keep it light and sweet with a handful of Stargazers or Gerbera Daisies. For a more romantic gesture, a single rose and accent flowers. Be sure to ask for water picks so the flowers don’t wilt before dessert.
Just Because or Day After date flowers.
Earn extra swoon points if a date goes well by sending flowers the next day, or anytime just to be spontaneous. It should be something lively and enthusiastic that shows you are looking forward to seeing them again. This one should have a few different types of flowers. The brighter and more colorful the better. Kinda like a male bird showing off his bright, fancy feathers to his lady bird.
First month anniversary. This is actually a mini-milestone that many couples celebrate. Think of it as another opportunity to sweep someone off their feet. A floral gift at this point doesn’t have to be spectacular, either wrapped or arranged in a vase will do. Just a sweet something to let them know they are on your mind and that you are paying attention.Good to Know Tip: Our wrapped, cash and carry flowers are always 50% off.
Love In Bloom by Freyta’gs Florist
1st anniversary: It goes without saying that this is an important one. By now you know what works and what doesn’t. However, anniversaries are a time to go big or go home, whatever big means to the two of you. This would be the time to make sure a favorite flower is the main focal point, if not the only flower. If they prefer an elegant Phalaenopsis Orchid plant over a bouquet of red roses, then that’s what they should receive. The gesture will mean so much more to them if you remember their favorite flowers, even if you think it’s not the typical romantic gift.
I’m sorry flowers: It’s gonna happen. But you have a get out of ‘the dog house’ free card up your sleeve. Ask yourself on a scale of one to ten, how mad are they? Are they just disappointed, or are they really heart-broken? Most of the time something along the following lines will get you back on speaking terms and on the road to patching things up:
- Scale of 1 to 3 – Just a little annoyed: Wrapped bouquet or small arrangement delivered in person.
- Scale of 4 to 6 – Might be sleeping on the couch for a couple of nights: Medium sized vase with a favorite flower or color or combination.
- Scale of 7 to 10 – Really messed up this time: Uh oh, better go big! Large vase with extra stems of their favorites.
Bling-Bling Vase
Birthday: This should be easy for the initiated. (If you’ve read this far, that’s you!) If it’s a milestone make sure to send something special. Bright and cheerful is the key. Remember their favorites and the ‘not so much’ and go for it. Tip: This would be an ideal time for a special container. Ask for a vase upgrade or ceramic container.
A Custom Design: Floral Hug
Sympathy: If they lose a dear friend or family member (even the furry, feathered or scaled variety) surprise them with something to take their mind off things. A flowering plant or soft floral bouquet should do the trick. Have it delivered or better yet, pick it up and give it to them in person with along with a big hug.
Custom Design with Hot Pink Roses, Calla Lilies, Stargzer Lilies and Green Hydrangea.
Valentine’s day: Some of us wait all year for this day! It doesn’t matter if you are newly dating or have been together a while, they are expecting something. If nothing happens, they will be disappointed. It doesn’t need to be extravagant (unless you know otherwise). Just make sure it’s something they will love and that it arrives on or just before Valentine’s Day. Good to Know Tip: Freytag’s Florist offers amazing deals on Valentine’s Day roses if you order in January and also delivery discounts if you have them delivered a few days before the actual holiday.
