So what are Admin Week, and Admin Day you ask? For the uninitiated, Administrative Professionals are honored with an entire week of appreciation the last full week of April, and a special Administrative Professionals Day is on Wednesday of the same week. This special holiday used to be called Secretaries Week, and Secretaries Day. Back then, when you heard the word secretary, you knew what it meant. Today, the term administrative professional is more common. And there is much more to the role of an administrative professional than keeping tabs on an executive’s phone calls and caffeine intake.
Nowadays, an administrative pro is typically a person whose work consists of supporting all management, including executives, instead of just one person. They are responsible for a variety of project management, communication, or organizational tasks. And they are not always female.
The quandary for many is how to mark the day, recognize and reward your admins for being the glue that holds the office together. A desk size bouquet or plant is a nice token that will always be appreciated. (Along with an afternoon off, and/or a long lunch, with the exec.’s picking up the tab).
If you’re struggling with gift ideas for one, or multiple, male or female admins on your staff, fret not, we have a few fresh ideas for everyone on your list.
