The tradition of the Christmas tree is one that has been around for hundreds of years and is a staple of the Christmas season all around the world. Although there is some dispute over the actual origins of the Christmas tree, many believe the tradition started in Germany in the 16th century. The trees were contained to a relatively small area in the Rhineland until the 18th century when they began to spread across Europe. It wasn’t until 1777 that the first Christmas tree showed up in America – other claim it wasn’t until later in 1816 that the Christmas tree made its first appearance. As the years past, decorations changed from candles and candy to Christmas lights and glass ornaments, but the tradition holds strong.
